Acne Treatments

While acne scars have been notoriously difficult to treat in the past, today’s new technology offers several options which can offer excellent improvement.

Acne Scare Treatment Options

Here are some of the techniques that can be used to try to improve acne scarring:

  • Facial Fillers – Dermal Filers and fat transfer injections can be used to create a separation between the skin and the underlying scar tissue, leaving room for your own collagen to grow giving long term results.
  • Subcision – A needle is used to separate the skin and scar tissue, which allows the growth of your own collagen which in turn promotes healing and creates a less visible hollow.
  • Excision – The deep scars can be directly excised with a stitch or two placed to create a small, smooth line on the skin that fades with time. Without the deep depression, no shadow will be cast which makes the face look much smoother.
  • Fraxel – Fraxel is a non-ablative laser that stimulates the production of collagen which can lessen the appearance of acne scarring over a course of several sessions.
  • Laser Resurfacing or dermabrasion – This is a deep process which allows fresh new skin to appear in the areas that were previously scarred. It works best in combination with other techniques.

We always strive for at least 50% improvement with our acne scar treatment, however, some patients have scarring that is so deep and extensive that unfortunately this is not possible.   During consultation you will be able to get realistic an idea of what to expect.

In general though, scar revision can give a nice improvement by using multiple techniques that all have relatively quick recovery period.
